I read a lot of books, but seldom review them. The Mountain Goat deserves my time. Jim Trainor's lyrical prose took me to Bright Angel, the Cathedral in Santa Feeling, Bandelier and Glacier. I too travel in a Roadtrek, trying to write on a laptop. This book both inspired and intimidated me and reminded me of the qualities of good writing: plot, place and people you come to care about. I appreciate that he allowed the spirituality to evolve slowly. I see now that my own stories have plot, but no soul. Thanks, Rev. Trainor, for the lesson and the spirit. It was a great read. I've read other books by the author. I think this is the best one yet. I loved the journey out west and it made me want to revisit some places and see some new ones. I loved the Ryan and Amanda story and how their relationship grew. The ending was what I had hoped it would be.
This book has it all.... an amazing road trip through the Rockies from one end to the other, a great view of some of our most beautiful Natural Parks, mystery, philosophy, romance, physics and thrills, with some pretty interesting characters to boot. Author Jim Trainor has a lot to say and shares it skillfully within the confines of a thriller..... a good read!
I have read all of Jim Trainor's novels. The Mountain Goat was one of his best. The book is filled with intrigue, mystery, romance, humor, soul searching, geography and scientific facts. Near the end of the book, I dropped everything on my agenda in order to read the surprise ending. I hope there is another book in the works. Marlene
A very believable tale of travel, love, adventure and self discovery. This is a must-read for the Roadtrek owner/fan, but take care that you're not panicked by bumps in the night after reading.
This is better than his last book. I wish he would have another follow up book. I can't wait for his next book. I have re-read several pages and found that I missed a few lines.
Once you start reading, it get's better and better and you just can't put it down. Thanks Jim
The Mountain Goat is a wonderful book.The title itself intrigues you. The plot pulls you in as well as do the characters. Their backgrounds slowly unfold. The author's background enhances the plot. His history as a physicist and a rector both play a role. Part of the setting is especially exciting for New Mexican readers.
I have read all 5 of Jim Trainor’s books and really enjoyed them all and highly recommend them all if you have not read them. The Mountain Goat was by far my favorite. This book contained everything romance, suspense, fear which struck most of my emotions even drawing an occasional tear. The detail he uses in describing places, things, people, and circumstances is truly amazing. You can tell that a great deal of research went into writing this book.
